Bob Ainsworth criticises Barack Obama over Afghanistan So Bob Bollox Ainsworth has put his big dumb foot in his mouth again. Thing is Bob may have a point Obama is dithering just ask US Commanders and they will tell you the same. But to blame Obama for the decline in British public support for the war in Afghanistan is totally unfounded. British public opinion is overwhelmingly for bringing our forces home regardless of how many more thousand Americans are sent there. The truth is the situation in Afghanistan is too complicated to just throw troops at it. Outside of Kabul ruled by a dictator called Karzai who is mockingly referred to by the rest of that troubled Country as the `Mayor Of Kabul` or something similar as he has not one jot of power outside of his heavily fortified base. The real rulers of Afghanistan the Tribal Lords don’t need a mock election they rule their Kingdoms, they have seen many other armies arrive in Afghanistan and eventually leave with their tails between their legs, so they rightly assume that the coalition will be no different to the Soviets. Its no good building the hearts and minds of local towns and villages when the Countryside is a wild no mans land, ruled by many different tribal factions as well as the Taliban. You have to put yourself in the average Afghan sandals. Why would they risk death helping a Foreign army who may or may not be their for the long hall. The one thing the Taliban have on their side is time. Remember what happened to the South Vietnamese military when the US left Saigon? The Taliban would be equally ruthless to the ANA/ ANP. This is why a high number of ANA/ANP defect to the Taliban, some just work for whoever is going to pay them at the time. As for Obama there is a tradition of sparing a Turkey at the Whitehouse for Thanksgiving, lets hope he soon puts the American people out of their misery and makes his decision on Afghanistan, as for Bob Bollox Ainsworth his Goose is well and truly cooked.
