Why do US soldiers commit suicide? That is one hell of a complicated question, but I can tell you the ignorant people some ex soldiers that ridicule men with PTSD don’t help matters. I have received e-mails from ex soldiers that include terrible insults and comments like “Why don’t you do us all a favour and hang yourself.” You can imagine how someone suffering from clinical depression might feel after reading this? Many of these ignorant dangerous fools have never been in combat. Depression is the loneliest place of all and when people you perceive as comrades turn upon you then in your own mind the only way out is death. A soldier maybe more than some civilians needs to take action even if to a healthy individual that action is inconceivable when the main object of a soldiers job is staying alive. That is only my small part in answering such a complicated question.

About five hours later, we were woken by the Captain and informed that we were entering British air space to a large cheer. After a meal and coffee we prepared for our glorious home coming.
The aircraft landed and taxied to a halt. We’d made it. I had no idea what to expect when I left the plane. A mixture of alcohol and excitement made me, and many others, unsteady on our feet. We left the aircraft in order of rank, so I was one of the last to stagger down the stairway to the tune of a military band, a small crowd of civvies and the press. At the bottom of the stairs were several high ranking Officers. In my excitement I nearly forgot to salute them and the drunken effort I did make wasn’t exactly Trooping of the Colour standard.
I was engulfed in a sea of emotion as families embraced, hugging and kissing in an unashamed display of love and relief. Amongst all these people, including the men I’d
just fought with, I felt totally alone. Nobody from my family had come to meet me. Thinking about it, I wasn’t really all that bothered at the time. Things hadn’t really sunk in.

UK troops in Afghanistan are fighting 'as hard as soldiers in the Second World War' British soldiers will always fight `hard` its in their DNA I think it is unhelpful to compare different conflicts. I read a comment in the book `Dusty Warriors` an officer saying his men in Iraq were far more intelligent than the soldiers who fought in the Falklands. One things for sure a soldier who took a bullet and was killed on D Day is the same `Dead` as one killed today in Helmand. The huge difference between WW2 and today’s conflicts is that a large majority of the British public think it has nothing to do with them and don’t see any threat to them from terrorism, unlike the Blitz .

A Government Scientist, a Diplomat and a Squaddie are captured by the Taliban and are taken to remote Pakistani prison.
After a week in solitary, they are brought one by one in front of the prison governor, a man bored and almost permanently pissed. To each he gives the challenge: "Tonight I will give you 3 x 2cm steel ball bearings, go back to your cells and prepare a trick to show me tomorrow, if yours is the best trick I will let you go free"
The three retire to their cells with their ball bearings, the next morning the Diplomat is up first.
"Have you got a trick for me?"
"Yes, I have developed a method of standing 3 x 2cm steel ball bearings one on top of each other so they stand in an unsupported column!!" The Diplomat shows his trick and is warmly congratulated by the Governor.
The next up is the Government Scientist:
"Have you got a trick for me?"
"Yes, I have developed a method of standing 3 x 2cm steel ball bearings one on top of each other so they stand in an unsupported column AT AN ANGLE OF 45 DEGREES!!" The Scientist shows his trick and is warmly congratulated by the Governor.
Last up is the Squaddie
"Have you got a trick for me?"
"No!"
"What do you mean, No?"
"No, no trick!"
"What have you done with your three ball bearings?"
"Well..... I broke two and lost one!!"
Our military humiliation in Afghanistan is a scandal - and the cover-up is an even greater one Yes I agree with this assessment but its not the fault of the guys on the ground it’s the fault of the Socialists who are destroying our military through under funding. Unfortunately like in 1982 the Empire cannot strike back any longer.

Gurkhas fail in immigration bid Lets be honest the majority of fair minded non left wing people in this Country will be and should be appalled by this decision. 200 years of service counts for nothing to this despicable Socialist gang of anti military leeches. I could write a book on the reasons why the Gurkhas are not the `right` immigrants. What the Socialists don’t want are immigrants who are `Proud` of the flag they served under and respect law & order and work hard and don’t want hand outs or charity. They don’t want immigrants that don’t call for a change in the law and want Christianity outlawed and their own laws Religion brought in via any means including violence. I am angry but not at all surprised at this decision. As I have said before the Gurkhas would be better off sneaking into Britain in the back of a lorry and claiming Asylum, but these brave warriors are to honourable to do such a thing. It a sad reflection on this Country that honour is only a one way street here. Lets be honest this Socialist Government have sunk as low as they can and this is just another rung in to the sewers of Westminster. History will judge this betrayal, but Johnny Gurkha hold your head up and stand proud for you stand head and shoulders above the whole of this rotten Socialist Government.
